CME Requirements

Credit amount
New Jersey requires 100 CME course hours per licensure period. There are no first-time CME requirements for physicians who have completed an accredited graduate medical education program within 12 months of their initial licensure period’s end date.

Topics
Physicians must complete a minimum of 40 Category 1 CME hours, with a maximum of 60 Category 2 credit hours. At least six hours of CME in cultural competency are required. Over 90 CME credits can be earned in any subject area.

Prejudgment and Post-Judgment Interest

Prejudgment Tort Actions Rate: For judgments exceeding the monetary limit of the Special Civil Part, simple interest at a rate equal to 2% above the average rate of return, to the nearest whole or one-half percent of the State of New Jersey Cash Management Fund. However, no interest shall accrue prior to the entry of judgment against a public entity or public employee.

One-Party or Two-Party State

New Jersey is a one-party state.

In New Jersey, it is a criminal offense to use any device to record or share communications, whether oral or electronic, without the consent of at least one person taking part in the communication. This means that in New Jersey, you are legally allowed to record a conversation if you are a contributor, or with prior consent from one of the involved parties, barring any criminal intentions. It is also lawful to record electronic communications that are easily available to the public. N.J. Stat. Ann. § 2A:156A-4.

Abortion Law

Abortion remains legal in New Jersey. In 2022, New Jersey enacted a statutory protection for abortion as a fundamental right, and the state’s highest court recognized the “fundamental right of a woman to control her body and destiny” under the New Jersey constitution.
